Firecracker have been busy beavering away on a project on behalf of Ubuntu aimed at getting millions of people in third world communities online. Codename ‘Jumpstart’ we have developed a communications programme which simply instructs users on how to conduct all manner of online activities, from sending an email to searching the world-wide web. It is being rolled out in up to 16 languages including Mandarin and Cantonese.
The instructions will be pre-installed on computers across the developing world to enable users to get the most out of their new machines.
Ubuntu is the third biggest operating system in the world. As an open source programme it is far more cost effective than its competitors and as such the system of choice across Asia and Africa.
