A ‘pukka’ web presence

For those who know me, I have an unhealthy obsession with all things Jamie Oliver.  I’ve used his website (www.jamieoliver.com) to get recipes for many years but have noticed in the past year, the website has really embraced social media – bringing many aspects of digital marketing into one website.

Not only does his personality and passion for food shine through in the creative – with its welcoming typography and bright colours – but it’s also a central hub for all his campaigns, projects and endeavours – giving unique access to all his fans.

The website is full of useful and relevant content – users can find many of his recipes from his books and TV programmes, find out more information on his restaurants and also how to get involved in his latest projects like ‘Jamie at Home’.  There are also video recipes, where you can see a real-life demonstration of the recipes, latest news from the Jamie Oliver empire plus an online shop where you can purchase his books or his specially design cooking and dining range.

The most exciting thing about his website is the community he has built online.  There are forums with thousands of members regularly participating in communicating with other members (and ultimately interacting with the Jamie Oliver brand), recipe exchanges amongst members – a recent competition selected the best member created recipe to feature at one of Jamie’s restaurants, twitter updates that link directly into new recipes featured on the site or other new updates on his site and also, the ability to create your own food blog through the website.   The monthly newsletters carry through the Jamie branding from the website – in its design and content and tone – everything just oozes Jamie.

This constant interaction with users gives fans greater access to Jamie.  It’s great to see a brand using technology that’s approachable and most importantly, putting a personal touch to maximising brand presence online.
